1990年，Verve于英国西北部Lancashire郡的Wigan组队，Richard、Pete、Simon在就读Upholland高校时结为好友，随后找来念Winstanley大学的Nick组团，The Verve展开驻唱后旋即获得传媒青睐，纷纷以惊人、不朽等字眼来形容乐团的现场功力，在好评嘉勉声中，更坚定了Verve发表专辑的决心。91年9月，Verve与Hut Recordings厂牌签约，92年初展身手就以All In The Mind、She's A Superstar、Gravity Grave等3首单曲抢下独立榜的龙头，93年5月，Verve前进美国，应邀担任The Black Crowes乐团的巡回演唱开场，同时也发表另一首单曲Blue，同年6月，Verve发行首张专辑《A Storm In Heaven》，此张作品推出后深获乐界侧目，英国乐评激赏为“90年代的迷幻摇滚新经典”，94年对Verve而言可说是麻烦连连的一年，首先乐团在参加Lollapalooza音乐节时陷入混乱的局面，再来是在美国爵士名厂Verve的抗议下，乐团被迫要在团名前冠上The，正名为The Verve后，乐团与制作名匠Owen Morris合作第2张专辑《A Northern Soul》，专辑融合了刚强、脆弱、浓烈、生动、伤感氛围、旋律性、自由性格等特质，英国传媒再度抱以热烈喝采，推崇The Verve为90年代的摇滚乐留下傲人的风采，Richard自承这是一张串连了痛苦、雀跃、性欲、迷失、浪漫等情绪的专辑，一张发自灵魂、植入人心的专辑，专辑中的This Is Music、On Your Own纷纷在95年夏季攻进英国金榜TOP 40。在经历散摊传闻后，97年，The Verve在加入新团员Simon Tong后重新出发，再度以专辑《Urban Hymns》震撼全英，专辑与单曲Bitter Sweet Symphony、The Drugs Don't Work在英国金榜上驻留超过一年以上，此张与Youth、Chris Potter等制作高手合作的专辑不仅再次入选年度最佳专辑，更为90年代的英国摇滚竖立了全新的里程碑，同时也为乐团拿下成军以来的首张英国金榜冠军专辑成绩，乐团随后也在Reading音乐节中激荡超强的摇滚能量与摇滚热情，就在攀登颠峰之际，乐团却在98年4月发布了解散的消息，让乐界与乐迷深感惋惜。
2004年11月，The Verve精选大碟《This Is Music: The Singles 92-98》豋场，与乐迷重温The Verve的光荣岁月，精选大碟搜集了乐团历年的英国金榜畅销曲，包括97年跳登英国金榜的摇滚国歌Bitter Sweet Symphony、乐团首支英国金榜冠军曲The Drugs Don't Work、英国金榜TOP 7单曲Lucky Man以及This Is Music、On Your Own、History等TOP 40单曲，精选大碟中同时还收录了两首乐团在录制《Urban Hymns》专辑期间所灌录，但从未发表的歌曲This Could Be My Moment 、Monte Carlo。作者: hoyot 时间: 2011-8-1 11:01:44
